ORLANDO, Florida (CNN) -- Remains described as being those of a small child were found Thursday near the home of missing toddler Caylee Anthony's grandparents, a spokesman for the Orange County, Florida, sheriff's office told CNN.

A crowd began to grow at the scene as news broke that a child's remains had been found.
2 of 2 The discovery was made about 9:30 a.m. by a utility worker, who alerted authorities, spokesman Jim Solomons said. Investigators, including those from the Anthony case and defense team, were on the scene, he said.

Police Capt. Angelo Nieves was reluctant to disclose details of the discovery to reporters at the scene, other than to say the skeletal remains found in a plastic bag appeared consistent with those of a young child. The Anthony family has been notified of the discovery, he said.

Cindy Anthony stressed that five searches for the girl's body have "come up with nothing. There's nothing that they have found that, you know, has given them any evidence that Caylee is no longer with us."


The Anthonys said they believe the girl is still alive and that someone has her, noting several reports of sightings.

Last month, Strickland denied prosecutors' request to impose a gag order in Anthony's case, saying he could not state that continued publicity would pose a threat to her trial, or even that a gag order would stem the flood of media attention.

i think the Illinois governor is glad the body was found, so that the heat was taken off of him.

SRSLY, tho. Casey Anthony needs to die a slow death for doing this. I still think she's guilty, and I want her to die the worst death possible if she's convicted. Doing that to a child is inhuman.

It was confirmed that it is the little girl. It was ruled a homicide but they're not saying how she died.
