What tool do I need to take off the bolts in the head? There are like 8 or 10 of these black bolts bolted the head to the block. What do I need to get these bolts off? I have socket wrenches, but they don't fit on the bolts. I guess I need to buy some huge Allen wrench sockets?

You could get sockets that have allen wrench ends on them. If its only one size it might be worth it, cause then if you ever have to put it back together you could torque it to spec

yea just pick up a set of metric allen sockets, make sure you loosen each bolt a little at a time as to not warp the head.

Have to get something to depress the valve springs to get at the two valve keepers. Once you get those off the spring retainer, valve spring itself, and the valve will come off. Assumes that you've already pulled the cams and the lifters out (hope that you noted the order of the lifters - or you will have more work on your hands).

Probably not a bad idea to go ahead and pull the valveseals out (use needle nose pliers and pluck them out). Pop the valve spring seats out with a puff of compressed air and a magnetic pickup tool.

As you are doing this - keep the parts together in a baggie or box and note the order they came out (don't mix them between cylinders, don't get them backwards or flipped) - can be used for diagnostic work later or if you need to put the head back together with the old parts in a hurry.

Thanks for the advice guys. BTW, I am not rebuilding this engine. Just simply taking it apart to learn from it then it's going to the recycler.

Ok. What tool do I need to take off these star looking bolts?
