    HID's for 2001 corolla?

any specifics with lights? I need to change the bulbs on the headlight to brighter ones, still have the stock light bulbs, looking to change them, should I just change the bulb or should i go with HID's?

That's like saying "I want more power...should I install an intake or swap the engine?"

    :p

How much do you want to spend? I've ran Sylvania Silverstars and liked them...not cheap, but cheaper than HIDs.

Get some 5000k or 4300k HIDs. I'm eventually going to get some myself, but don't have the extra money to throw around.

Also.. If you are going to install HID's you will have to disable your DRL's. Theres some threads around here that tell you how to. Or just check out Vamp's website.

If you want to go cheap, you can just get some high voltage bulbs and change out the sockets to heavy duty ones. The sockets are less than $10 each, and I got some Nokya bulbs on ebay for like $20

The Mod Express HID group buy on ToyotaNation is only 140 shipped. That's one of the lowest prices you can find that includes a warranty. You have the 01 corolla, so you'll need a 9006 HID kit. If you want your color temperature to not include any blue, you can get 4300K which is pure white with a hint of yellow. It's great for avoiding police. You can also get the 6000K which is pure white. An example is LED white.

I wouldn't buy from a generic vender like on ebay or amazon. Go check out the group buys on ToyotaNation. The Mod Express is a good deal and they'll answer every question you can throw at them. There's no need to a bixenon hi/lo kit unless you plan on flashing your high beams a lot.

Is the HID kit difficult to install? I installed new bulb sockets when I got the high wattage bulbs. Is it any more difficult than that?

would it be better to just change the bulbs instead of installing HID's, just putting in like ultra white bulbs?

That's like saying, what's better, a Geo metro, or a Ferrari? You know which one is better already. It's just a matter of cost.

EDIT: I just realized you asked the same question twice.
Apparently, you're not listening to us or taking our advice. I don't see why you would make a thread about HID's and then default to getting replacement bulbs.

It's easy. You're not too far off. The hardest part is finding room to mount the ballasts.

Another option is HIR bulbs. Limited supply arond, but if you want a much strong light output without any kind of modification to the OEM lamp assemblies - this is the easiest way to go. Draws the same amount of juice as a regular bulb, fitment is basically replacing the exising bulbs with these. These are HID "like" - not HID replacements. Better than something like SilverStars or NightHawks - but still not quite as nice as "real" HIDs. If you want to go HID - you can't go cheap, that is just asking for trouble down the road. Spend the money now and do it right, if you plan on going with a "real" HID. Otherwise, go with an GE HIR bulb or one of the altered color temperature ones to get a "brighter" light.

Installing HID is as easy as 1... 2.. 3.. and 4...

    1. Remove your old bulb.
    2. Install your HID bulb.
    3. Connect the ballast to your HID bulb and your stock connector to the ballast.
    4. Find a nice spot to hide your ballast.

So everyone agrees you shouldn't go cheap with HIDs but what are some of the good brands out there? I'm skeptical to buy anything on ebay because it could be crap, and they are just selling it for alot of money.

Also rollatuner, I remember in a thread that you have 60W HID bulbs and the norm is 45W. Is it a big difference, and where did you get the 60W bulbs

Only buy from authorized dealers. The Mod Express group buy on TN is cheap and reliable. You have the voltages wrong. It's 35W and 50W. You can't just buy the bulbs to upgrade to 50W. You need to buy the 50W ballasts as well. The base kit price will increase as well. I think I paid 180 for mine.

Oh ok, my bad on the voltages. So are the higher wattage bulbs worth it?? Also do you need a second set for fog lights? or can you just attach another socket to the ballast?

imo, the 50W are much better than 35W. The light output is increased 2 fold over 35W. Yes, you will need another complete HID kit for the fog lights as well.

My point exactly. He's asking which one is better, when it's so obvious. LOL :D

Yes, I have it. That's why I'm pointing everyone in that direction. :)

I thought it was illegal to just swap the bulbs.. I thought you had to use an original OEM lens assembly designed for HID for it to be legit

either get some casper shields OR buy a projector headlight that supports HIDs OR find a halogen projector that doesn't cause too much glare to put your HIDs in *i use acura mdx with an HID kit*. If you drop your HIDs into your corolla headlight housings you're going to be blinding everyone.

If you have shields, it's alright. Angling the headlights down also reduces glare as well. I don't have any complaints with mine. I drive behind cops all the time too and they don't harass me. My color temperature is 4300K, so they just look like really bright halogens.

What are shields? Do you install them inside the headlight housing? It sounds like you have to put them on the top side of the bulb.
