DIY: How to change your swaybar links (endlinks)

So your 8th generation Corolla has an annoying 'clunk' 'clunk' noise when you run over small bumps at low speed eh? Maybe the cause is your endlinks. If the boots on your endlinks are torn or you can wiggle the endlinks then you should replace them. Here is how!

    Tools Needed:
    14 MM wench
    Allen wench socket set
    Creeper
    Anti-seize grease

    To replace the front endlinks:

1)Jack up your car and put the front wheels on jackstands. You don't have to remove the wheels, but it makes it easier to give you access and leverage to take the bolts off and on.

    2) Make sure both your front wheels are off the ground and on jackstands to take tension off the swaybar. Trust me, it is a lot harder to take the swaybar off and on if there is tension on the bar.

    3) Stick your Allen wrench into the center of each endlink bolt to keep the bolt from turning as you loosen it with your 14MM wench. Out comes the endlink.

    4) Repeat for the other side.

    5) Then use anti-seize grease on the threads of your new endlinks. Installation is the reverse of the steps to take them off.

    To replace the rear endlinks:

    1) Jack up your car and put the rear wheels on jackstands. Make sure both rear wheels are off the ground to take the tension off the swaybar on the endlinks.

    2) Take off your rear wheels.

    3) Take the Allen wrench and stick it into the center of the bolt in the endlink to keep the endlink from turning and use the 14MM wench to loosen the nut.

    4) Do this for the other nut and out comes the endlink.

    5) Repeat the above steps for the other side and installation is the reverse of how you took it out. Make sure you use anti-seize grease on the threads of your new endlinks.

Nice write up. I should probably replace mine when I lower my car this spring. OEM on 147,xxx Miles they are probably a little tired.

I see you have some aftermarket ones just like me. I had to replace mine when I did my struts and the oem ones were a MO**ER F**KING PAIN IN THE MO**ER F**KING A$$ to get off. We used a blow torch, a sawzall, wd-40, a hammer, and about an hour and a half to get the two rear ones off.

The Moog replacements are still too weak.

The ones I build will look something like this.

The OEM worked fine I don't see the need to make it stronger, it was the boots that would get torn.

But if those are adjustable, then you can set it up where the boots aren't being stressed when you lower your car.

i was planning on doing these along with my struts cuz they have to come off. is it better to get the oem ones they seem plastic or should i get aftermarket like the ones you put on plu. i found the oem at toyota for like 45 each and napa has a cheap set for 25 and a set for 68 which look similar to what you put in plu. are the aftermarket ones weaker? and have u had a problems since putting them in.

I'm planning on doing this when my jack and floor stands arrive. Does anyone have problems doing it with the wheel on? Also where would you put the floor jacks? On the control arm? under the wheel assembly?

Why don't you try to do your tie rods yourself? How do you know if your tie rods are bad?

I just did mine when I put the new struts on. The original ones were seized up some kinda crazy. Was pretty generous with the anti-seize on the new ones. I used Moog, the boots seem to be better and they are taped for a grease fitting. Instead of using an Allen wrench on the end of the bolt the head of the end link has a 18mm nut you can put a wrench on as you tighten the 15mm nut.

It was kinda a pain in the butt. I just cut the mount off of the strut to get it free. It wasn't coming off
