    Speeding ticket help =[

So i got caught doing 79 on the freeway which speed limit is 55, the cop pulled me over and supposedly told me he was giving me a ticket for failing to stop at red light on a right hand turn and speeding, so he gave me a ticket and claimed that i had a radar detector because he shot me with the radar gun 3 times and each time i reduced speed 79, 76, 72 bla bla anyways im on my parents insurance plan and i already have a speeding ticket from about 6-7 months ago, my biggest worry is how much this is gonna cost me extra on insurance? will it go up by a lot? and will it be obvious for them to find out?

It really depends on your insurance company. Some of the nicer ones would forgive you if you have had a clean driving record for many years while insured with them. But others would raise your rates by as much as 40% for one point. If you have the opportunity to go to traffic school, take it. Otherwise go to court and fight the ticket.. which you should always do anyways.

He supposedly told you he was giving you tickets for failure to stop and for speed? He either did or didn't. You were cited for speed or failure to stop? Both, or just speed? The radar detector comment is irrelevant unless he wrote you for it.

How are we supposed to know how much extra your insurance will go up? Yes, your insurance company will probably find out..depends on when/if they check your driving record.

    Oh, and slow down.

Some insurance companies don't check unless you change your plan, so maybe you'll be lucky. But 2 tickets in 6 months is not good, if your going to speed make sure you're not the only one speeding. Just travel in packs

don't know if there are traffic lawyers out there like there is here, but if i got a ticket i would call one of those places and for 200-300 it could be reduced to a parking violation and no traffic school or insurance rates going up.

I usually go to a place that they charge $80, and they reduce the charge to court fees, which is usually another $100

I need more details on that please.

And the officer said he was going to give me 2 tickets for failing to make a complete stop on a right hand turn and speeding, well im looking at the ticket and it only says "offense #1 speeding" base fine $360 or something. The guy was pissed and thought i was trying to run from him because i turned off the highway onto a business road were he thought i was gonna try and "ditch him" except thats were i work...

Theres places called "ticket Clinic" or something to that affect that u can pay $55-100 and they go to court for u, and try to get the court fees reduced or reduced with no points, its still gonna cost u money. but the points on ur licence is the big one, and is what will affect ur insurence. Dont tell them unless they ask, but I never do. And for the love of god dont just pay it. thats the worst thing u can do.

I can tell u from experence I had 1 ticket for doing 70 in a 45, ticket was thrown out, a year later i got nailed doing 80 in a 55. Ticket was $360 plus 4 points. Payed an attorney $100 to go to court. Court reduced to $190 including court costs, no points. so it cost me $300~ for that ticket. Traffic School will help get the ticket fee/pently down.

    Lastly SLOW DOWN!

So what do you recommend that i do? I found this site on my local DMV
    http://www.dmv.org/or-oregon/traffic-tickets.php
Is it legit and will it help keep my insurance down?
This is my second speeding ticket, i dont really care about paying the fine, its the insurance i dont want to go up because im on family plan.

Any traffic attorney can help you out. I like to go to one that has a guaranteed no points on your license. My brother has gotten many tickets, and should have had his license suspended, but has never gotten points on his license. But it doesn't pay to speed.

Hmm, Well according to that site its just a manual to understand Oregon DMV. It does say something intresting though.
Quote:"The Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) does not operate a point system like other states, but instead relies on its Driver Improvement Program to promote good driving and discourage repeat violations.

Oregon motorists must participate in the Driver Improvement Program if convicted of multiple offenses including speeding, running red lights, failure to signal for lane changes, and multiple accidents."
Driver Imporvement Program:The goal of the Driver Improvement Program is to maintain the safety of Oregon roads by motivating people to drive safely and keeping unsafe drivers off the roads. If you have been convicted of multiple traffic offenses and/or preventable accidents over a stated period of time, you may be subject to the Driver Improvement Program.

Depending on the number of offenses and/or accidents, and the time period in which they occurred, DMV may restrict or even suspend your driving privileges. The types of offenses that fall under this program include convictions for speeding, running a red light, and failure to signal a lane change.

The way I read that, is that, u dont have a point system like other states. My Advise is to whip out the yellow pages, call any Traffic Attorney (most will do free consultation on the phone) and tell them your situation, and they can advise u on what your options are.

to me it sounds like that place is just going to try and get you in the "Driver Improvement Program", but what you want is a reduced ticket to something like a parking violation or smaller fine. you can go to court and ask for that program instead of paying them to do it.

Thats why I have a Pre-Paid Legal plan. A lot of times they can keep the points off your record and you just pay the fine or reduce the fine as well. Did you know that when you go to court the officer has to state the gun that he cited you with and when it was last certified basically. Anyways there are certain laws and things that need to be said and if they are not said then your case can be dismissed. I had a friend that this had happend to. If the cop doesn't show up its dismissed as well. Court is usually on the cops day off haha! My friend had a cop let him go with a warning for speeding because he knew he had Pre Paid Legal when he gave him his card and license! You might want to check into getting something like that if you speed often or not.

Do you get time and a half for your court time up there? Is it up to your own discretion on whether or not you go to court? Would your superiors not really care if you skip out on court? Like most other systems, if a defendant delays his court date, is he lumped into your next group of cases?

Yes, I get overtime. However, getting up in the middle of the day would be like any ordinary person getting up for 2am. It's not cool.

No, it's not my own discretion.

They would not be pleased..let's put it that way.

How is that relevant? The next group will still be in the middle of the day.

The OP's story reminds me of a speeding ticket I got out of once. I was late for work one morning and blasting down a local three lane road that I knew the cops frequently set up a radar trap, so as I drove 70 MPH on a 50 MPH road I rounded a bend where the cops like to sit and kept scanning ahead for a cop. Sure enough, there he was, and I immediately took my foot off the gas and hit the brake, bringing my speed down to 50 MPH. I thought, "Oh, shit, I'm busted!" and drove down the road, passing the cop as he inched his cruiser down a short dirt road toward the street, but as I passed him he simply sat there and pointed his finger at me, then backed up into his radar position after I passed. WTF??? I thought about it a couple minutes, then realized that I had been so quick to slow down he was unable to get a speed locked into his radar unit, so he was unable to give me a ticket but he sure let me know he knew that I knew I was speeding and got away with it. Whew!

Nowadays laser units instantaneously register a speed, so I couldn't get away with the same thing today.

And they have radar units mounted in the car, so they can catch your speed simply driving along (as me know I know lol).

Thats because when they shoot you with the radar gun they have to get atleast 2-3 speed marks on you otherwise if they only get one it can be thrown out in court.
