    Supercharger for an '09 Tacoma

    Hi guys!:)
    My dilemma.
I tried to get a TRD SC for my '09 Tacoma 4.0L and was told the SC for the '09 is different than the '08.
The new version will be out arounf mid Nov.
I've read the only change is more emission control to pass the California Air Resources Board.
TRD supercharger ads do state that the supercharger is for "offroad use only"
NJ isn't as strict on emissions as CA.Would the '08 SC application work for an '09?

I know nothing about tacoma's and their SCs...

If the engine bay layout and engine of an 08 and 09 are the same I might think that the SCs could be compatible too...

... So dont listen to me :D

Oh and Welcome to the forums!!

    :D
    Thanks!

It's a lot of money to take a chance with.
I don't think a Toyota dealer would take the chance either.
    It's not a fit issue.
I called TRD and was told the difference is the mapping to the ECU.
I guess I'll have to wait for the '09 application.
Less HP could mean no sale, though.

Yeah. The money you're going to spend on a SC, you don't want to take a chance

If the changes will be mapping the ECU, why not go get a different ecu and have someone tune it for you? Isnt that what custom force inducted people do anyways?

Unless something has changed in very recent years, the Toyota Trucks have not had a "programmable" ECU. It always requires some sort of outside "chip" that modifies the signal going into the computer in the first place. I forget what Vortex uses, but my supercharged tundra friends have to use the UniChip which is a secondary computer.

So no, if the dealer told you not to use the '08 due to ECU maps, I highly suggest you not. Unless you go swap out for an '08 motor. :)

    *just to clarify*

^ so the "chip" is added to the ecu? I always thought it replaced the factory ECU info to the "fine-tuned" info.

I faintly remember "E-Manage".... I think thats what Vamp used...

I think the E-manage replaces the whole computer, that is different than a chip. I had a chip in a VW and I pulled out the ECU, and replaced one of the chips on the motherboard.

try customtacos, maybe they can shed more light on the subject.

I wanted to put a sc on my 01 Taco back in the days but gas was cheap back then.. I find myself granny driving the thing in the slow lane everyday so a sc is the last thing I need.
