Last month, Toyota announced that its Yaris five-door hatchback would finally make its U.S. debut in 2009. Perfect timing, as escalating gas prices are making small cars like the Yaris increasingly popular; especially when they can be had for a song... which brings us to the real news here. The '09 Yaris five-door will begin at just $13,305 for the base model, with the upper-level S model coming in at $15,125. Also new for '09 are standard anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, driver and front passenger front side airbags, and front and rear side curtain airbags. Fuel mileage remains a strong point, with 29 mpg city and 35 mpg highway when equipped with an automatic transmission and 29 city, 36 highway with the manual transmission models. Now, if only Toyota could find a way to move the gauges in front of the driver where they should be, we'd be all set.

put the driver's seat in the middle of the car. That would be a safer spot in case of a T-bone accident.

Coz Toyota want to lower the production $$$ for both LHD and RHD market

i still want one.. those cars are fun to drive..

its because it gives you more of a clear view of the road in front of you, you can add a storage compartment there, and in reality you use your perferal vision to check the guages anyway, and its easier if they are to the side of you and when u look over to check them you are still looking straight rather then down

better looking than the 2 door, but maybe they should borrow designs from vw and make the front dash like a tray. it would make the wasted space useful.

i would buy the new yaris over a corolla. more peppy, lighter, more fun to drive.. like the older corolla...

its a battle between the yaris and honda fit,they look similar.

yaris will win hands down. even does better in gas mileage

the yaris-s sedans look pretty nifty.
