To Flush or Not to Flush?

    Hello All,

I've been doing alot of reading on this topic and even called several places....SO i have a quick question and would like to get your thoughts

My wife has 2003 Corolla S model (Auto Trans) with 110k on it...
I believe She had her Transmission flush done around 60k but i'm 100% on that. I've read confilicting stories about flushing tranny

What do you guys think? should I flush the tranny or don't mess with it?

Or should I do a drain -n- replace fluid?

best bet would be to test the fluid. if it still appears a bit pink I wouldn't bother replacing it. if it looks burnt like used oil I'd replace it.

ok, sorry everyone i am wrong. I just read my Toyota Manual and it instructed to change your transmission fluid every 15,000 miles, change your engine oil every 3,750 miles, lubrication and check tire for any damage.

I change tranny oil every year
engine oil every 3000 or less

    very hot and humid here

but yea if it's still pinkish it's ok
    change change it
    it'll feel better

flushing for the trannies aren't recommended
unless you get debris and crap into it, I use the seafoam tranny thingy cleaner

I only used it because my car had 99K miles and never had an tranny oil change

over fill the tranny.... turn on car, play with the gears, move the car inches, let it over night, move it again in the morning, let it warm up again to operating temp, drain

Transmission fluid is good stuff now-a-days. I get my tranny serviced every 50 or so k miles. It shifts perfectly fine.

uhh I only had 30k miles on mine when i got it drained and filled... but I guess since it was 19y/o without getting it replaced it was about time... I remembered the drive after the oil was changed, one can almost not feel the shift.

its very weird... my nissan maxima shift really smooth and i never change the oil, but my corolla shift kinda hard in the morning and i always change the oil every 3-4k miles.

Are you talking about engine oil or tranny oil? Like they were saying ^ tranny oil is good a while more than 3-4k miles.

Oil has nothing to do with transmission shifting. Unless you are putting Penzoil in your transmission. :)

And it's going to shift harder in the morning than during the day, the temperature has dropped outside, so the transmission fluid is going to be a little thicker. (This is more so during winter than anything)
