Best Gas?

Other stations gas used to clog up the carb on my bike. Shell VPower is the best gas I've ever used.

i usuallly go for 76 cuz the gas lasts pretty long...my car eats up arco like nothing...goes away waaaay too fast.

oh and for some reason, i have to put premium on the rolla or else the chk engine light turns on if i put regular.

Some cars are funny about gas - same with gas stations. Might get a tank of awesome gas one fill - get a $hitty tank the next time around, within a week at the same station.

Sometimes the octane rating makes a big difference - Probably due to the number of miles on the Corolla (~150K) and the normal combustion chamber deposits - I consistently see better fuel economy as I step up in grades. Way outside statistical deviation - I routinely get a minimum of 2MPG gain for each grade I bump it up. My commute is long enough where some variables will be averaged out (~80-100 mile round trip) and mostly highway. Average speed stays about the same, I get to work at the same time within 5 minutes or so, thoughout the week. I know that the Corolla was intented to run on 87 - but my numbers work for me. I actually save money running premium over regular mileage-wise, car's performance is the same either way. But doesn't always work out that way - there is a crossover point where the MPG gains from the higher octane start to slip behind the cost of the gas itself. Lately - I've noticed that I save anywhere from $0.50-$1.50 per tank filling with premium. Still fill up with regular a several times a year, atleast once a month, to verify that this trend still occurs. Over the past three years - done it like clockwork. Doesn't mean that it will apply to everyone - but don't write it off either. Like they say - your mileage may vary.

As far as the service stations themselves - the best stations that I've filled up at that consistently yielded good fuel economy and smooth running are:

- Shell, Exxon, BP, Sunoco

The ones that seems to consistently give poor fuel economy and runs a bit odd are:

- Citgo, 7-Eleven, Costco, Safeway

Back by my folk's place - I generally fill at Shell, BP, 76, or Chevron

When I mean good station vs a bad station - it is a non-trivial difference in perfomance and fuel economy. Some places, I might barely hit 23MPG in the Matrix. Fill up at a different station - mileage jumps to almost 30MPG on that tank. The Corolla sees a much larger swing - anywhere from a low of 27MPG to as high as 44MPG, over my normal commute. Could be that the one station had gas that wasn't really 93 octane and the car was pulling the timing to keep from blowing up. Don't know for sure - but the Matrix makes for a good test of the quality of gas. If it runs well on that gas - I'll bring the Corolla in there to fill up.

I usually fill up at Petro-Canada (using regular 87) since they have rewards points that came be redeemed for free stuff.

But I just filled up at Shell a few days ago, got the top-line V-Power for the price of regular since they ran out

i use only Top Tier Gas. BMW, General Motors, Honda, and Toyota, vw, and audi all joined together to develope a gas that has detergents in it and thier cars a meant to run off it for the best gas mileage. Texaco, Shell and Chevron are all top tier gasoline stations.
