Is it just me or are all the drivers slowing down?

Is it just me or is everyone slowing down on the Interstate highways? It used to be that 75-80 mph was the normal flow, but now everyone goes 65-70 mph. Gas prices too high to blame?

People have been getting tickets for running so high over the limit and they've realized they need to slow it down.

Not here in California either. We have some of the worst drivers in the US. Especially here in the Valley where more than 80% of the residents here are retarded and have their brains fried from the heat. Short tempers and traffic are never good. I see morons flying down the highways going 90+ every day.

At what price would drivers start considering to slow down to save gas?

I think if they lowered the speed limit some we would save millions if not billion barrels of oil a year.

and increase ticket revenues. the speed limit on I-57 drops from 70 to 65 as you cross into Illinois from Missouri. We drove it on a Thursday and Saturday. Both days there were IL state police, county sheriffs and all manner of ticket writing officers on the IL side catching the shit out of people doing 70, lol. I'm talking dozens of officers in a 2-3 mile stretch...most with someone pulled over.

It's cool fi you wann slow down and save gas. However, if you want to slow down...please GTFO of the LEFT LANE when you do it. I swear, if the speed limit is 70 and you're doing 71...that's not license to block up traffic. Move ovah!

I tend to agree with you there; and the few less minutes that you get there speeding isn't worth the extra cost in fuel nor your and others safety.

Needless to say the Highways and byways aren't part of the "Need For Speed" video game:D

My theory is people with fast cars who like to drive fast will always drive fast no matter what the gas price. If they have enough money to afford a fast car, they will be able to afford the gas. But I have a feeling those people would be the ones who also has the loudest mouth for complaining about the high gas prices and stupid enough to blame the wrong people for rise in gas prices. And i'm sure the idea of trading in or buying a new compact, slow, much more gas efficient car would never enter their minds..

Well that is my theory for people in california...

Haven't noticed anyone slowing down around here either... people seem to have mentality that "the faster I reach my destination, the less gas I'll use". And that's with our cash-grab street racing laws in effect too. Complete idiocy.

Hilarious ... not to mention if you're going slow in the left lane you deserve to hit the median a little bit. Stop being an ignorant asshole and let us people who drive the speed limit pass you slow fucks. Thanks. :)

There is nothing to drop ...

Now I have actually been doing the speedlimit lately maybe 5 or so over to keep up with the flow. I have noticed that the douche bags who drive the Dodge Rams, Chargers, and Magnums are still going a thousand miles an hour. I am thinkng these are the people who have a disposable income and don't care about the prices. Which is fine ... keep on driving like a tool. And stop trying to run people off the road when they're driving in the right lane because you're too impatient.

    Okay I've vented ... thanks.

I need some contraption to ward off tailgaters when I'm going the speed limit. Maybe a toggle on flamethrower exhaust? Or maybe squirters that cover the windshield in dye? :D

I just wanna write the following on my back windshield:

    Rules of Driving:

1: If you're tailgating me don't be surprised if your front end is my new back seat because I decided to brake check your ass.

Okay that's pretty much it ... lol

Actually I was driving down I 15 the other day and this chic was driving a Ford Escape and in HUGE stick on lettering (like you'd use on poster board) was :

If you're going to ride my ass
    at least pull my hair.

Okay now I thought that saying was funny when I first heard it however to put that on your back windshield like she did, she's asking to get raped in a parking lot. That's all....

    My thoughts:

If you wish to drive the speed limit, fine. I am not going to bother you if you are doing the speed limit. If you are going UNDER the speed limit, you need to get the f**k out of my way. My ideal speed on the highway is 68-69 mph. On normal 45 mph city streets, I run 48-50. If you need to turn left, fine. You are more than welcome to get over.

    HOWEVER

Do not dart in front of me if you are going 30 and I am going 50. You will get every inch of my steel bar right up your tail-pipe.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, try to keep a steady speed. Nothing irritates me more on the highway than somebody who cannot seem to keep some sort of speed. 65, 63, 67, 58, 54, 75, 65, 69, 59, 62... PICK ONE.

We can all get along on the roads. And no, just because I am bigger than you doesn't mean I'm going to ram you. Or try to force you off the road. But I have no problems riding your a$$ when you cut in front of me going 35 mph less than me. ... then sit there listening to your headphones, never taking a single look in your mirror.

Also, on another note. Don't brake check people. Basically that's like putting a sign in your window that says, "Please rear-end me." If someone is riding your ass, move out of the way. ESPECIALLY don't brake check somebody alot bigger than you. I have the bar, it has an angle. On a smaller car with enough force on the back end, I might just grind right up the bar, and my front tires will come rolling over your face. ... is that enough of a reason to hit your brakes if I'm too close?

Third note, It is NOT my problem that your car cannot keep speed going up a tiny incline. So don't flip me off when I have to stand on my brakes because you lost 15 mph of speed going up a hill.

    /ventoff.

Okay ... I don't really brake check as much as I take my foot of the gas and pull my ebrake up while pushing the button in. It just slows you down A LITTLE bit so they get the point. (I DO NOT do it all the time either, i am pretty patient with people and will tolerate the @$$ riding for a little bit) And honestly, i think i am one of the greatest drivers. I get out of the way all the time if someone is in a rush, how do I know they don't have a pregnant lady in the backseat giving birth or some other emergency? I mostly stick to the right or middle lane of the roads.

And people with the big trucks ... and bars and steel wrestling cages all over the vehicle ... just don't drive like a douche and everyone can get along. :)
