Top Secret V12 Supra does 222 mph at Nardo

Smokey Nagata likes to smoke his tires on freeways all over the world. While his stunts may not be lawful or even sane, he continues to find new territory in which to get his thrills. After being arrested in England and New Zealand, he has finally taken his action off the streets and onto the Nardo Ring test track in Italy. Reportedly, the twin turbo V12 Top Secret Supra, driven by Smokey, achieved a top speed of 222 mph (358 km/h) at Nardo. While certainly a mind-numbing velocity, it falls just a tad short of the 248 mph (400 km/h) goal.

The Top Secret Supra project is intended to present the Supra as the kind of supercar some feel Toyota should be selling. Its V12 powerplant is sourced from a Toyota Century (a Japanese market luxury sedan), and extra power beyond its stock 276 horses, many airflow aids have been added. These range from custom plenums and piping to dual HKS GT2540 turbochargers. All in all, the engine's output has been tuned somewhere north of 1,000 hp. To learn more information on the car check out this feature from Super Street Magazine.

But at a fraction of the cost and is more unique than a Veyron considering there's only one. :D

yea I'm just disappointed.. The veyron climbed to 253Mph with only 1001HP and its a production street car. I'm expecting more from TopSecret.

North of 1000hp is too often here in TX. I know 3 or 4 supra people that are above 1000hp.

    EDIT:
I still don't get it... v12 as compared to v6/v8... I mean if you can make as much HP with a v6/v8, why do it in a v12?

Torque my friend. :D That's the pull that will get you up to 222 mph. An I6 or V8 don't have the capability to do so.

its only a 5liter v12, they closely compare it to 2 1jzgte engines mated in a V configuration. and if you google "texas mile" you will see that there are more than one 3/3.4 liter I6 supras that have achieved equal, and greater, speeds than this car.

what sets the veyron apart is that it actually achieves greater than the rated 1001hp and an incredible 900+tq.

also, search NHRA and you will be suprised how many V8s have gone 222mph+

Really? Wow, what a piddly little 12 cylinder. That's only 0.3 bigger than my 8.

    Now I'm disappointed.

heres an example of a 3.9l v8... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F40 still dissapointed? the ignorant phrase "no replacement for displacement" was coined when engine technology was basically nonexistent.

It may be the size of a V8, but it still has 4 more cylinders. It will take more fuel and has more potential to make more power. A V8 won't match the output of a V12 of the same displacement. I love smaller Japanese motors. Everything in the US is oversized. :D

here is another 5liter engine, a v8 that is rated at 290hp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Boss_302_engine

identical displacement, and 4 less cylinders... but 14 more hp. the fact about the toyota v12 is that it was built to be an incredible smooth engine, not a performer.

I dont understand why they spend so much money on the car and then left the stock headlight body line for the hood. Everytime I look at the car, thats what I see.

Why is it sad? That I think something capable of 222+ has a motor smaller than what's in my truck?

Forgive me if I'm an old-school person, where a blown 454 still put more horsepower down than a blown 350. I still haven't adjusted to this lightweight turbo'd generation yet. Give me a rock solid motor bigger than the cab of my truck and I'm happy.

Why make a big fuss of it being a 12-cylinder if they could have achieved the same thing in this day and age with an 8.

    Now the 6.0L LS2, that's a block.

its sad that you still think big and ineficient is somehow superior to small and efficient.

and youre preaching to the choir if for some reason the bold statement in your post wandered off the topic and touched on diesel engines... im a CAT man myself.
