People who switch to diet drinks end up eating more, filling in the calorie savings they got from switching to Diet. This study shows the weight gain link as biological as opposed to a conscious decision. They'd already figured out people tended to eat more with "diet" foods. Now I think they're figuring out why.

The bigger issue is that people just don't move around like they used to. Even 50 years ago we didn't have the fatass epidemic we do now. There was no low-calorie synthesized food then just decent exercise, lack of computers and TVs and appropriate food portions.

Sugar is not the enemy. Being a lazyass is.

i also drink coke zero alot. they were saying that if you can control the urge to eat that the extra sweetness gives you it will actually help you lost weight. but for alot of people they cant control the urge.

I lost when I switched to diet drinks too. It think it was good for about 5-7 pounds. However, I have noticed the urge to eat more. I attributed it to my previously insane caloric intake due to my former job. I just assumed that while my metabolism slowed down and activity level dropped when I took the desk job, my brain hadn't figured out I didn't need as much food. It sucks too. 6 years out and I'm still hungry all the freakin time. I've just learned to fill in the hunger with fruit and water, lol.

I agree with MovieStar, if you can control the urge to eat you'll be ok. I'd add that if you can't control the hungry feelings, fill it in with apples, oranges and water.....not Oreos and Ruffles, lol.

that's not the fault of the sweetener...that's people's inability to control themselves.

control themselves because the sweetener makes you more hungry. and they are unable to control that extra hunger

You shouldn't believe everything the media spews out. According to the media or news, one thing that you do or eat that is beneficial to you one day is harmful and causes cancer or something of that sort the next. It's not reliable and shouldn't be taken at face value. It's best to do your own research with citeable and reliable resources. From what I found out from my biochemistry professor(PhD and done research in this field), saccharin and other artificial sweeteners will help you lose weight by reducing sugar intake. Sugar = evil when abused. It has been known to cause cancer and has been proven accurately, however, even at the rate most people consume them, the quantities are still not high enough to cause cancer until long after our lifespan. I would think avoiding obesity and diabetes would be more important than trying to stave off cancer that would form from saccharin in the next 80 years or longer. :D Take no heed to this BS being fed to us. Carry on with your daily lives.

However, if you still are worried about any negative effects of saccharin whether it be ignorance or superstition, you can try switching to Stevia, which is an artificial sweetener that is 100% natural and derived from an actual plant. 0 calories if I remember correctly.

here's a better idea: don't eat anything, because it's all unhealthy and it'll all kill you. :D

haha You speak the truth. Even breathing the air will kill you eventually. :D Kind of ironic how we rely on O2 when we breathe and yet the oxidizing effects speed up the aging process, ultimately leading to cell senescence and death. People should just eat as healthy as they can and stop worrying about all these complications.
