    resonator?

    has anyone used this?
i used the vibrant resonator and it didnt dampen my trd muffler that much (with custom cat-back exhaust piping 2.25"). I guess because the vibrant resonator is a straight-through design to minimize restriction. the only thing it got rid of is the popping plastic rice sound which im glad is gone now.

so now i just ordered these

i got it for $80 shipped and as you can see, its got restriction and i'm hoping it will dampen the sound a lot more. I'm curious, does it matter where in the exhaust piping i place this resonator at? currently, i have the vibrant resonator about a foot after the cat converter. should i put this hushpower resonator closer to the muffler?
if you're too lazy to look up vibrant resonator, it looks like this:

    input please

    ....no idea

so you are putting 2 resonators in?

As I said on vvti, no matter where you put it, it will still dampen the noise. I'm thinking of getting a second one too. I want my car as quiet and stealthy as possible.

If you can fit 2 resonators that put two in one after the other. One of the best sounding exhaust system I've ever installed/heard was the Fujitsubo Legalis Super R on a WRX. It is a one piece design with 2 resonators before a canister style muffler. But the resonator SHOULD be place as close to the engine as possible.

Ah, okay so now I'm getting two different views for location.

Can anyone care to explain why placing the resonator as close to the engine as possible would be better than just putting it anywhere?

Those are the two different views I see here.

Btw, is it a bad idea if they're immediately adjacent from each other?

    for example,

    exhaust manifold==cat converter===vibrant resonator-huspower resonator===bend====trd muffler

I had a glass pack muffler as a resonator then a TRD Muffler and it was pretty quiet until you got above 4K then it started getting loud.

how big are they? i thought they were pretty big so you wouldnt have room to fit to. and im guess closer to the engine is good bcuz it will help dampen noise from the engine??

this would def fit. the resonators with the can design would be harder to fit than these because they would be able to fit in the groove where the exhaust piping runs through

Cause when your exhaust is at 92.5 db at 2,500 rpms in the cab, and 104 at 4K and a ear shattering 130 at 6K you want to quiet it down a little.

That was the first exhaust on the Corolla my second exhaust on the Corolla was 2.25 inch pipe from the cat to a glass pack then to the TRD muffler and the difference was night and day.

If you choose the right resonator it won't restrict flow. Use a straight through design.

    Best exhaust, cut-out.

I just put one on my Civic and I wish I had one on the Corolla. Its loud when you need it and the car does wake up a little

in regards to straight through design - i guess the one i just bought is straight through but it still has some restriction on it unlike the first set of resonators i have. if its still too loud i might get another one of the hushpower and remove the vibrant resonator

so i installed it and its gotten noticeably quieter, unlike the free-flow resonator. i'd say it's def worth the money and on top of that, i found a place nearby to do my manual tranny swap :)
