16 inch rims

225/50R16 tire size (or)
215/45R16 tire size
Which of these 2 tire sizes is best for my 16 inch rims?

205/45/16. Anything bigger needs serious offsets and widened fenders.

with 16s i believe you can put 205/50s

i don't know about 16 but the rear on my 15 are 205/60 rear and 185/55 front and the 18's are 215/35ZR18 al around.

Go with the 205/40 16......... but be careful on which manufacture you buy from cause they all arent the same ..... Some manufactures make there with wide shoulders and they look tall and other go with a small shoulders and they make the tire look smaller...... The reason i know this is cause i deal with tires .....

why 205/40/16? that's just going to give you a headache with lack of air cushion when you can def go more than 40series

You have to remember the width of the tire makes up for the hieght..... Its hard to explain typing but i will do my best.... All passenger tires are rated for pounds.... Basically there all the same until you move up to the Light truck tires..... but what I'm saying is the width will make up for the height ....as far as cushoin goes these roads suck no matter where you live....lol..... but suspension does help out like shocks , sway bars , We cant avoid pot holes and bumps. .... I use to have 205/50 16 and it felt the same way as if i had my 205/40 16.... but if you go to your local sears or good year and talk to a tire tech but dont let them sell you anything ...LMAO..... just listen and ask.... and you will see what I'm talking about ...... P.S... Most of the info for a tire is on the side wall .... The D.O.T. , the year and week it was made , How many ply's , Load , Tread wear , Rubber compound - AA, BB, A, B, C,

nah well i used to have 205/40/17s and i had no problems with it except the pot holes. i switched to 195/55/15s and i can tell you i have not had to realign my car nor have a wheel bent since. there is a difference.

I guess every car is different plus the way we drive .... Do you know that I never ever had my wheel balanced on any of my cars and never had problems .... I had a Regal , Honda , corolla's and never once had them balanced..... nor aligned.... Weird Huh..... and the other funny thing is on front wheel drive cars i replaced my front tires 3 times and had a set in the back last me 5 years and still sold them only cause i wanted the same name tires all around ..... You have pics on that 155 series ???

P.S. Try this out measure the outside of a 17 inch tire i think a 205/4017 and measure a 195/50 15 and you will see there is only a 1/2 inch difference ....LOL... weird huh....

40/17 tires are closer to maximizing the space. you suggested 40/16s and why if you have more room to play with? if you're wanting the more aggressive less sidewall look, then go 40/17 otherwise go with 50/16s. i dont see what you are trying to prove in your previous post.

16" TRD rims come on 205/45/16. THat's what I use.

205/50/16's are what I use on my Civic. The reason why is because I used a tire calculator and found out that this size matches almost perfectly the size of my OEM wheels and tires, thus not effecting my speedo and things like that. Use a tire calculator...

the base 98-02 corollas came in 175/65/14 in base model and 185/65/14 on LE models but on the same speedometers so it's really a toss up

205/40/16 or 205/45/16 depending on the manufacturer. Either one puts you close to the stock diameter, and any wider and you run into serious fender and/or strut rubbing issues. You'll only have minor fender rubbing issues with the aforementioned sizes

I put in the numbers on a tire calculator and this is what I got

2001 Corolla (all models)
Stock tire size - 185/65/14
-Revs per mile - 886.6
-Actual speed - 60mph

205/40/16
-Revs per mile - 926.5
-Actual speed - 62.7mph
-Speedometer difference - 4.500% (too fast)
-Diameter Difference - 4.31% (too small)

205/45/16
-Revs per mile - 894.2
-Actual speed - 60.5mph
-Speedometer difference - 0.857% (closest to stock)
-Diameter Difference - 0.86% (closest to stock)

205/50/16
-Revs per mile - 864.1
-Actual speed - 58.4mph
-Speedometer difference - 2.603% (too slow)
-Diameter Difference - 2.54% (within reason)

Generally, a diameter percentage difference with only a 3% deviation from stock is optimum but you want to get as close to stock as possible usually. That's why 205/50s say that it's within reason. So according to those numbers, 205/45/16s are the best choice to go with. Next time, use a tire calculator when choosing tire sizes...

The TRD 16" Rims have like a +43 or a +45 offset and they recommend using 205/45/16. I use that on stock suspension with no problems what so ever at all. Even lowered you should be perfectly fine with a 45 profile.

I'm riding on a 1.3" drop (Eibach springs/ Tokico struts) with the 16" TRD rims (45 offset). I can confirm the 205/45/16 size. I've had no problems with rubbing

Offset is an important factor when considering rims. If they have an offset of +40 or more, you probably won't have problems with rubbing. But below that, you may run into it even with 205/40/16 or 205/45/16 tires. I have 16" rims with a +38 offset and I've had both tire sizes, and when I first got them the tires rubbed like crazy until I had the inner fender lip shaved. Had no problems since though.

One more thing to add to everything above. Make sure you get hub centric rings with your wheels. That will keep your steering wheel from shaking at high speeds.

Since aftermarket wheels are not vehicle specific and are made to fit a range of vehicles, The wheel's hub centers are bigger than the actual stock fitting. In order to get the wheels absolutely centered on the hub, you have to install hub centric rings. If you don't, you could experience nasty wheel vibrations in the steering wheel.

FYI: The TRD 16" rims weight ~19lbs each and I think they are +47 offset because if you look on the inside of the rim there is a +47 brand stamped on it.
