    obx forza header

does anyone here use aftermarket exhaust headers?

i was just curious...here are some... i see some differences..the first two are obx's and the third one is Thunder Racing Exhaust. the first two are similarly priced while the third one will cost over 400$ if you include shipping (from Australia). why is the third one so damn expensive?

i'm assuming that i will fail emissions with these exhaust headers right?

Could be a material issue or that they don't either order or produce them in as large a quantity as OBX. The bottom one appears to be stainless, but the chromed ones could have anything hidden under the finish.
The price difference may also have to do with exchange rates since it's a direct purchase from overseas.

The header itself has very little to due with emission testing. Generally speaking as long as you don't lose the cat or any sensors you'll be fine.

i was reading somewhere that it affects your emission if you go from 4-1 as opposed to have 4-2-1

Only if you lose a sensor or the catalytic converter in the process. Remember it's just changing the path through which the exhaust gases flow, not the gases themselves. All a larger diameter header is going to do physically is reduce exhaust backpressure. It doesn't change the emissions the engine makes, so long as the OE emission system(sensors, cat(s)) is maintained.

it looks like the first one will lose the cat converter huh?

i'm just going to stick with my oem ported exhaust header then.

the header configuration in regard to exhaust pulsing is also different on all of them... the third one looks to be the better of the bunch in design and quality as well.

Well I know the Forza fits correctly. I don't know about the others. Most of them are marketed towards the 03+ corolla where it can clear the firewall. Not so in the 98-02.

with forza you do get to keep your cat if you want to...the other headers look like they wont fit the 8thgens, but might fit 9thgens....

There is power gain. Not much on the lower end but you can definitely feel it higher up. It comes in handy on the highways for acceleration and passing. hehe Considering CAI help with low end and a 4:1 header helps with top end, put those two together and its pretty well balanced.

Those are the phantom headers. I've never seen one in person or heard of anyone receiving them. It's always on back order.

im no pro, or anywhere near a gearhead but i think what he is pointing to is...

    in the exhaust scavanging,
the exhaust manifold makes a vacuum that helps bring in the air, and at the same time i think also mixes the air and fuel together. making the stock one bigger lessens the vacuum inside. the same thing happens when you get bigger exhaust pipes etc.

someone correct me if im wrong...
