    All about suspension.

So my car needs new suspension. When I drive through dips or huge humps on the freeway you can tell my car needs a suspension change. Instead of all the four corners moving up and down at the same time, its like all the four springs have different spring rates :superconf

so ill get the suspension job at toyota. the suspension dudes tell me to just get aftermarket stuff cuz its cheaper and could be better for the price.

    Questions:
    1. How can i tell if my car has stuts or shocks? Even the dealer didnt know

    2. If I get lowering springs (specifically the one in the pic below), will i need camber kits?

here is a screenie of the only springs available for my car at autopartswarehouse.com either the intrax lowering springs or the other springs with no name that wouldnt give me a drop.

Macpherson struts are the shock/spring done together (like w/ coilovers-- but the spring sits on top of a perch on the shock). The shock is the tube-like part, which along with the spring, makes the strut.

Struts are shocks, but not the the other way around.

And if your TOYOTA dealership doesnt know if you have Struts or shocks, take your car elsewhere!

And go with the Intrax...after your alignment after they settle, whoever aligns it will tell you if you need a camber kit or not. most likely not with the stated 1.6 inch drop, but many times it ends up being a larger drop.

he just input my car's info in the computer. he didnt lift it to check or whatsoever because i just asked for a quote if they will do it. and he ended up telling me just to get aftermarket parts... he didnt specifically tell me what to get tho...

are camber kits bought for specific cars or are they universal? i ask because it might be hard to find these stuff if it is specifically for certain cars.

Cmaber kits arent too hard to find for your car.

What did they quote for installation? 2 hours labor...3 at the most. Take it to an independant shop.
