I have a 2 Fuji's. One is pocket size and the other isn't. its a bit bulkier. Great pics and I just messed with the settings and the pics are even better. You can get a decent camera for that price range, but you gotta include insurance if the place offers it. Its always good to have it just in case.

^I have a Casio Exilim S770. Its incredible to say the least because of its huge screen, super slim figure, 7mp, rechargable battery, and the fact that you can take a bunch of pictures (im talkin about probably around 300) and not run out of battery...memory cards are cheap for it too. Downside is there aren't enough manual controls but for the average user, that probably wouldn't be too much of an issue. Also, ISO settings get very grainy too quickly. For example, anything about ISO 200 becomes grainy and ISO 800 is an upset. A good camera shouldn't show signs of graininess until about ISO 400 at the least. But if you set it to be on ISO 50 all the time, you won't have a problem.

Before you buy a camera, I highly recommend you look at Flickr.com and check out their popular camera ratings. You can also check on user feedback for every camera and see some pictures taken by users for each one too. They also give you the specs on each camera. According to them, the most popular point and shoot camera is the Canon Powershot SD600. Actually Canon's Powershot line makes up the top five popular in the P/S category..

This is the camera that I have...well I have the 460..this is the 470. Its almost identical. No big difference between the two.

The one I have and this one are both rugged. I've dropped mine a few times by accident and its survived. only lil knicks in the case. Only thing I will say is that the xD card it takes is not as common as the SD cards and what not. So its not like you can just put the card into any card reader to get the pics. You'd have to have the USB cord and the camera handy to download the pics.

I had a fuji finepix and a sony cybershot, didn't like either much. The fuji had a confusing settings menu and crappy battery life. The sony was more user friendly but I hate using Memory Sticks, they're expensive and useless if you don't own many sony devices. The rechargable battery recently just took a crap after 4yrs of use. Both took decent pictures however.

My sis got a cybershot for x-mas and I like the camera in all with the exception of the material its made from. She dropped it once and it never worked again. Thankfully she had insurance on it and got a full refund for it and got herself another sony. if it wasn't for the material and high risk of breaking, I would of recommended that. memory card and sticks usually drop down in price too. I paid 90.00 for my 1GB xD card when it first came out and now its down to 45.00. Still a bit expensive compared to what you can get now a days with SD cards but what can ya do.

Back in day when film was all the rage, ISO was the term used for the type of film speed as well as how sensitive your picture will be to the light. Lighting is half of everything you should consider when you take pictures. The lower the ISO, the higher the film speed. If you were taking a picture in the dark, you would want a lower ISO setting. The higher the ISO, the grainier the picture or what other people like to say...your picture will have a lot of "noise". High ISO is good if your taking a picture in the day where it really wouldn't matter. If you're setting your camera to automatic settings...and you set your camera to low ISO, it will automatically change other values like shutter speed and I think your aperture too (will probably be bigger). This is to control the amount of light as well.

Anyways, now that i've given you a crash course on ISO settings, about what Jspex was saying with the Sony Cybershot's, at one point I wanted to trade my Exilim camera in for a Sony Cybershot because there is more user freedom with it and it takes high quality pictures too. Like I said before, research the camera's that your interested in, what things you want in a camera, and then check out the flickr site!!

These are a couple of pictures from my Casio Exilim S770 (No Photoshop Involved) (settings were adjusted on the camera:(

This picture was incredibly hard to take because I fought the camera's automatic settings for a good 20 minutes...

Buy a Canon, you won't regret it. They make one of the best point and shoot cameras money can buy. I'd recommend that you get something that has manual adjustments you can play around with to take better looking photos. The Powershot A-series is quite a excellent. The following pics were taken with my 4-year old A80 with no flash, only manual focus and white balance settings adjusted.

^^Like I said before, Canon Powershot is a very popular choice among point and shoot camera users and that right there is why. Although I would probably get a more up-to-date version of their Powershot lineup and stick with the SD models...

I dont think I can ever go back to a point and shoot camera. Ive fallen in love with my dSLR. However, I would also go with a Canon P&S if I were you.
