Normally your download speed is faster than the upload speed. If that's not the case, check to make sure you have QoS disabled on the router. Also, try seeing if there's a more current firmware for it.What router are you using now? If you use a Linksys wireless, you can try this third party firmware that I found works nicely.

something to keep in mind - as we posted on another thread.

your connection to your router is going to be 100 mbit. The router will ALWAYS bottleneck your speed in that respect because the pipe on the other side is smaller than the pipe on your side. You will always be downgraded once you hit that point regardless. Take for instance a normal 45mbit link for a large company. Regardless of if they have gigabit or regular fastethernet on the company side, post router they will be dropped down to 45mbit for their throughput.

If you having problems with upload/download speeds, more than likely it is a throttling/shaping issue on your ISP side. For comcast the typical 6mbit package speeds are as follows:

    Downstream: 6600 kbps
    Upstream: 384 kbps

If you're getting anywhere near that... ie 300 k up 5000 k down then you're fine and you're getting what you paid for.

Sorry, I work for one of the fastest ISP's in the country (check out EATEL on www.dslreports.com), and I have to put in my tech support .02 on this:
You're paying for rates UP TO the speed stated. Check the terms of service. You'll see "speeds up to xxxmbps". I guarantee that's what they'll say. If they don't, it's false advertising, and they can get in trouble for that. I have to tell out customers this all the time when they run a speed test and see 6500kbps, and they know they can get up to 7000kbps. It says it on the terms of service, it says it on the website, and it says it all over the advertising we do. You 're capable of getting speeds of [insert # here], but that is only a maximum capable speed. Actual speed will be lower.

    /tech support lecture
It's my day off. No more tech support for me today. :p

    i agree with cgreen38....

But with comcast idk anyone that doesn't get the advertised speed. Most do.
I did have a problem before cause i had a rented modem from them that was like 5 years old, I had a Motorola SB4101. It didnt' actualyl support that new powerboost feature comcast has. In fact it was so outdated that i had dropped signals alot and few months back i was dropped to about a 3mb connection. So i read up on it and i just went to my local comcast store and i swapped out my modem for free cause it was a rental, for a brand new motorola 5200 series. It works so much better, never have a droppes signal

heh...i don't know anyone who actually GETS the advertized speed with comcrap. they're just that - crap. their customer service is abysmal, and if you actually get service on a consistent basis you can consider yourself lucky.

    Hey MovieStar,
I'm no expert but, try downloading TCP Optimizer 2.0.3 and move connection speed to 4000 kbps and reboot. Your speed should increase :D

    a) Read this thread, TCP Optimizer WOW: http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=184303
    b) Scan /Read sub-forum, Boardband Tweaks: http://forums.speedguide.net/forumdisplay.php?f=54
    c) Download TCP Optimizer 2.0.3 : http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=192212
    d) Read Documentation, TCP Optimizer Help: http://www.speedguide.net/tcpoptimizer.php
