1ZZ serpentine belt length with 2ZZ water pump

Does anyone know what the belt length would be with a 2ZZ water pump installed in a 1ZZ. The 2zz's water pump pulley is 2.25" larger in circumference compared to the 1ZZ. Thanks.

with that small of a difference, cant you just adjust the belt tensioner?

You mean off a Celica GTS? Would that work? I ended up picking up a belt that is 1" longer than stock, but I can't test fit it because we left the A/C compressor attached to the car.

Wow I have an account here!

Been out of the picture for a long time but here goes...

How much of the belt goes around the pulley 1/2 of it?

If you got me the original size of the pulley and the celica pulley size and how much it covers roughly I could give it a fairly good guess...

Just take 2 * pi * r * (how much it goes around pulley 1/2 or 2/3 or whatever) of the new pully size - 2 * pi * r * (how much it goes around pulley 1/2 or 2/3 or whatever) of the old pulley size and you should be damn close

Geez Los, where've you been hiding at? I tried calling you a bunch of times, but eventually gave up. I still have that fuel pump housing if you want to do that return fuel system. Anyway, the belt goes around ~1/2 of it. When I took some thread around the two pulleys, I found the difference to be about 2.25".

i knew there was some math equation to figure this out :D

    Celica GTS = 76.11"
    Celica GT / Corolla = 75"

Looks like my 1" longer belt may work, but I won't know until I get both the transmission and engine back in the bay.

GT-S should work, though I put a universal one on.

swap the pulley from your 1zz pump the the 2zz pump. it must be able to flow more internally because with a pulley that much larger its apinning much slower. thats the easy fix since you know your belt size. do you think there would be an issue of over spinning it?

maybe get an aftermarket underdrive pulley that places you in the middle, size wise, between the 1zz and 2zz pulley. your car wont be seeing 8600rpm like the 2zz right? so i dont think the pump speed would be an issue...

maybe i just over complicate things...!

Impossible because the 1zz pulley is pressed on while the 2zz is bolted on. The GT-S belt should work out fine. All this trouble because the 1zz water pump cavitates over 4500 RPMs.

    i see.

thats odd with the cavitation though... whats the cause? do you think an underdrive pulley could solve that problem? i figure it cavitates because its flowing too much, no? so slowing it down a tad might be benificial...?

I think its cavitates because of the design of the impeller compared to the 2ZZ's. There's no way to swap the pulley on the 1ZZ pump, and even if you could, I'm not sure if it would be flowing enough to efficiently cool the engine at higher RPMs. It's easier to just swap to the 2ZZ pump since it bolts right up.

1ZZ on left vs 2ZZ on right.

oh man, big difference. this seems like the obvious swap, even for people just doing maintenance.

I actually got a new phone recently and have no numbers.. my nextel crpa dies once again and I finally said screw it and moved over to verizon but the number is the same...

By measurements I meant the corolla's pulley size vs the celica's pulley size not belt size...

LoL And Im starting to think I have a cooling problem... Im reallly hoping its lack of fluid though because my car recently (past 2 days ive noticed) seems to get fairly hot in temperature at some points and then its fine at others... so Im not sure if my fans are turning on or my waterpump is failing or my belt is going bad or my (whatever its called) wont open at the right temperature but thats my next hurdle along with needing new rotors drums brake pads a rim and two tires and a clutch.. then maybe I can think about the fuel problem as well!

The +1" long belt / Celica GT-S belt will work. I finally got the motor back in last night and the belt fit perfectly.
