Do you think it even matters if a person is gay or not in order to serve in the military? I was never in the military so I can't say much. But what about those that are in the military now or were in it. Do you think they would be treated differently, especially with the higher ranks?

Or do you know of a gay person in the military? If so, how are they being treated if they are open about their sexuality?

IMO, it really doesn't matter if you're gay. If the individual can do the job I wouldn't have a problem with it. People will always have mixed feelings with gays in the military. I think the don't ask, don't tell policy is still in effect.

I was in the military and there was some obvious gays around that everyone knew about. Yeah, they were given shit about it but personally I didn't have a problem with it so long as they don't touch me..

Look I think that if you're gay ... you're gay. No if's and's but's about it ya know? Here is my issue ... if you're the flamboyant type ... then around the higher ranks/men/ even some women ... they will get offended. There are still hate crimes that go around ... and until the gay population can truly be respected with no animosity towards them, I think they should be cautious around people who don't take too kindly toward them. I knew a gay guy...he was open about it ... but it clearly states that you will not have homosexual conduct while serving in the military. It doesn't once say that you can't be gay and not join. Just refrain from your sexual activity. Now the old timers are going to be disgusted by the fact either way. That's why the person who said it was a General...not an E-2. I just think that people need to watch who they're around and stuff.

Anyways... I think the don't ask don't tell policy works well unless gays in the military feel the need to come out into the open about it all. The current beauracracy is fine as long as everyone keeps their comments to themselves.
Where's everybody from? I know that here in California we're more excepting of gays and lesbians whereas in other states they could be discriminated and possibly killed at the very worst. I'm not saying that we're 100% supportive but it's a lot better here than elsewhere.

I will tell you this in the MC we leave it as is and we leave them alone, that is why we have a "don't ask, don't tell " policy. Honestly IMO, they are here and are fighting for the same constitution as i am, all they have are different interest. All I tell them is i will treat them on a professional level but besides that just to no hit on anyone otherwise i have to report it.
