    Painted a wheel

I'm in the process of painting my wheels from white to metallic black. I only have one done so far but here is the progress made.

More to come as I make more progress, but between school n work it might be a few days for them all to be done.

Wow, I just noticed how bad my "after" photo quality was...its a cell phone pic so tomorrow when there is more light I'll get a new picture that doesn't look like blurred hbo porn.

Good job. I did the same to my rims I had on the 92 Camry. Went from white to gunmetal.

How long did the paint hold up for?...or did you powder coat?

I've seen this particular paint last a while, but no one seems to want to believe me.

    Materials:
*Dobey pads (the things you clean dishes w/)
*1000 grit sandpaper (any thing less was harsh on my wheels, but mine are weird so you can prolly get away w/ less grit)
    *Auto primer
*Paint of your choice (I used a rustoleum auto paint--metallic black)
    *Clear coat
*oh, and green painters tape (or ne other color)

    How to do it:
*clean off the wheel really well. I used the dobey pads and just scrubbed the ish out of them...degreaser also works really well
*wet sand the wheel down untill its scuffed pretty evenly
    *let dry thoroughly
*tape off the areas you dont want painted very carefully
    *primer 2-3 coats
    *paint 2-3 coats
    *clear coat 2-3 coats.

It is taking me about 3-4 hours avg total time per wheel, but a good amount of that time (maybe an hour and a half) is just waiting for the wheel to dry after cleaning it, plus maybe another 45 min. total time of waitng for the paint coats to dry.

I used the Duplicolor rim paint. I first sanded it down a little then masked the lip and sprayed about 2 or 3 coats and let it dry for about 20 minutes then just sprayed tons of the clear coat on it. They are still going strong with no problem. Here are pics of the rims before I painted them.

Here the rims are after the paint job.
